Clean up your Carolina Patriots T-Shirts, pack a lunch, get your US Flag, make a poster in support of flying the US Flag, fill up the tank, and get ready to head a little North on I-17 on Saturday.

Curtis Wright of WFNC in Wilmington, North Carolina announced yesterday during his 6am – 10am radio show that we need to come together at Patriots, TEA Party, and US Citizens to support the flying of the United States’ Flag at a shop in Leland, North Carolina. The event will be 10am September 4th in front of the store. I called Mr. Wright and he returned my call to let me in on some of the details.

Backstory:

The Owner of Buy & Go Gas Station (has 30 through out NC) flies the US Flag in front of his stores because he is a proud naturalized US Citizen. He wants to show his love of his new country and the principles for which it stands and the flag is the symbol of choice to express this for his family and business.

Well the Town of Leland, North Carolina’s town council wants to regulate the size of the flag(s) in their town and the actual ability of their citizens to be allowed to fly the flag, according to Mr. Wright. (At this time, no messages have been returned from the Town of Leland Town Hall (910) 371-0148 – left with Ashley Barefoot after being bounced around the office a bit).

According to the LNR Community Paper [http://www.thelnr.com/2010/08/american-flag-nets-50-per-day-civil-penalty/]:

American Flag Nets $50 Per Day Civil Penalty

As of today, August 27, 2010 the penalty start accruing at the rate of $50 per day. The management of the Buy & Go Gas Center in Leland has decided to not comply with a zoning ordinance with the Town of Leland, NC which regulates flag poles and the size of the American flag that can be legally flown in the town. According to the store’s manager, he stated”at this time, the flag is not coming down, we’ll get out the checkbook”. The Buy & Go has also hired an attorney to look into the civil citation issued by the town on August 23, 2010

**UPDATE**
Mr. Wright replied to my question about the name. It is Stop & Go not “Buy & Go” as the paper reports.

That’s why I don’t use the papers as a ‘source’! Turn at Ploof Rd. Light at Waterford.

Action Item:

Mr. Wright said he would send me a flyer when he got back to the office, and I’ll forward it to Janet for distribution to our e-mail membership list.

We need to get a caravan of folks to head up to support the United States’ Flag and our citizens’ rights to fly the flag. There has been a petition with some 6,000 signatures circulated in the Town of Leland (pop. about 13,000 souls) which will be brought Saturday along with our Flag Fling Protest at the store.

Directions: Get on I-17 North and stay on it till Leland, North Carolina. *wink*

This is a directions from Conway to Leland. It is estimated to be about an hour and a half from Conway. We (Aimee and I) will depart around 8am to make sure we get there in time for the 10am gathering. We will bring our US Flag and leave the Gadsden one behind this time, but you bring whatever flags and signs you want – Just get there and show your support for our Flag and the right to Fly it FREELY!

Leland, North Carolina – Ploof Road (I have to assume the large area with the trucks in the parking lot is the Truckstop)
